Ten years ago Mountain Roots began as a vision from a school business plan project in my Horticulture program in Fort Collins.  Longing to return to the mountains and active lifestyle Summit County had to offer, this vision began to turn into a reality.  Armed with a few shovels, hand tools, a $500 Ford Ranger, and some homemade business cards, Mountain Roots began to bloom.

Over the last decade Mountain Roots has flourished into a blend of passions around high-altitude gardening and plants, long-lasting relationships and friendships, and sustainable practices contributing to a better, greener future for the next generation of mountain lovers.  Our desire to educate and share the opportunities for gardening and growth in Summit County has existed through our Blog, social media, and classes for local organizations.

We are incredibly proud of our accomplishments over the years and could not have done it without the incredible support of people like you.  Among other things:

  • Our educational content has been noted in several local publications.
  • We have been featured in the Best of Summit for the last 3 years for the Best Landscaper category (2018, 2019, and 2020).
  • The Summit Chamber has recognized Mountain Roots as a Finalist for Small Business of the Year (2018, and 2019) and the winner of the Environmental Champion Award (2018).
  • We featured sustainable-styled gardens on the Summit County Garden Tour in 2019, focusing on water conservation, proper plant selection, soil amending with locally made compost, and eliminating harsh chemicals.

We are so grateful for the journey of Mountain Roots over the last 10 years and can’t wait to see what the future holds.  Here are some of our favorite images from the last 10 years.
